DIONYSUS CROSSING THE SEA

$ 390.00

It is one of the masterpieces of the Athenian Exekias who together with the Amasis Painter, pioneered the black-figure technique in the second half of the 6th century BC. It depicts the god of wine Dionysus on a ship with Pirates, who tried to abduct him. He transformed them all into dolphins and made vine leaves spring from the mast to act as sails. Dionysus personified man’s earthly passions. He was the ancient Greek god of wild and fertile nature, of the vine and wine. The original item is at Staatliche Museum in Munich.

This Kylix was Hand made in Greece, diameter size is approximately 12 inches. Our clay items are Hand painted and not fastly made, nor are they cheaply made of substitute materials such as resin. We stick to the materials and methods used by ancient Greeks and use only top quality ceramics and paints. Do not expect "perfection" as if these clay vases was not mass produced from a machine like many are, but by hand.
